OLEO-MAC GSH400 Chainsaw 3/8 Clutch Drum & Needle Bearing

Oleo-Mac GSH400 and many other chainsaws use a 3/8″ clutch drum kit to transmit power from the spinning crankshaft to the chain. The drum houses a needle bearing that the crankshaft rotates in, and carries the sprocket that drives the chain; once engine speed rises past idle, centrifugal force pushes the clutch shoes outward until they grip the inside of the drum and lock it to the crankshaft. Wear shows up in a few ways — the sprocket teeth round off, the needle bearing starts to seize or run hot, or the clutch shoes stop gripping cleanly — and any of these can leave the chain running sluggish, jerky, or slipping under load. A new kit restores clean, reliable engagement between the engine and the chain.
